Binance CEO Demands Release of Executive from Nigerian Detention

Binance CEO Richard Teng has urged the prompt release of Tigran Gambaryan, a jailed executive in Nigeria. Gambaryan's health has deteriorated since catching malaria in May, with officials reportedly refusing him adequate medical attention.

A frightening video shows Gambaryan attempting to walk with crutches owing to spinal problems. Guards refuse to aid him, despite his obvious distress. Teng published the video, describing the torture as "inhumane" and seeking Gambaryan's release for medical attention.

The Binance community has come together in solidarity, criticizing Gambaryan's abuse. Some suspect that Nigerian officials may be using him as leverage against Binance.

Gambaryan's health problems increased after he tested positive for malaria. He fell in court on May 23rd and later suffered double pneumonia. US representatives who visited him in June discovered that his condition had deteriorated substantially.

His trial for money laundering started on September 2, 2024. Gambaryan's lawyers have filed for release on medical grounds, claiming the necessity for surgery. The EFCC opposes the request, stating that his health is "manageable."

A hearing on the bail application was planned for September 4. Gambaryan's health and treatment remain a key concern for his family, the Binance community, and foreign campaigners seeking his release.
