BitKeep Wallets Hacked with Un-Official App

BitKeep, the most well-known digital asset wallet in Asia with over six million users, was compromised for a total of almost $8 million worth of various tokens.

Nearly 4373 $BNB, 5.4 million $USDT, 196k $DAI, and 1233.21 $ETH were among the stolen assets, said PeckShield, a blockchain security, and data analytics firm. In order to make sure there are no other security flaws, the wallet has also stopped offering its services.

BitKeep swiftly alerted all of its users to the tragic attack, which supports coins from more than 30 blockchain networks. The multichain crypto wallet stated in their official Telegram channel that according to their preliminary assessment, some APK package downloads may have been "hijacked by hackers and installed with code implanted by hackers."

The development team is putting a lot of effort into finding the hacker and limiting his or her reach, BitKeep also stated via their Twitter account. Before then, it warned consumers whose money had been taken that the application they had updated or downloaded might be a hacked version (an unapproved release version).

“Now, BitKeep advises people who downloaded the APK version to transfer the cash to "the wallet downloaded from another official shop (App Store or Google Play)" in order to ensure the security of user funds”. Additionally, it advises using the freshly established wallet address because the one they created using the apk may have been compromised by hackers.

The team will give its users more information about the attack as it becomes available to them. The statement highlighted " in order to protect your valuables, please make sure you download and utilize BitKeep wallet from the official Apple or Google stores if circumstances allow. If your wallet is taken, please fill out the form as quickly as you can, and we'll figure out the problem and help as soon as we can."

The attack is the most recent of many exploits that have been used in recent months. An attack on the BitKeep wallet's swap feature earlier in October resulted in the theft of tokens based on the BNB Chain and Polygon worth about $1 million.
