Vitalik Criticizes Michael Saylor's Bitcoin Custody Views

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has sharply criticized MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor's recent comments on bitcoin custody. Buterin termed Saylor's ideas "batshit insane" in response to a post by Casa's chief security officer, Jameson Lopp.

Lopp underlined the significance of self-custody for bitcoin owners. He identified various dangers linked with third-party custodians, including an increased risk of loss or seizure. Saylor predicted that major financial organizations would eventually get a sizable chunk of bitcoin's supply. He predicted that the Bitcoin network would improve when businesses and governments replaced "crypto-anarchists."

Buterin disagreed with Saylor's position. He highlighted the possible flaws of a regulatory capture strategy for defending cryptocurrency and emphasized that this technique contradicts crypto's underlying ideas.

The discussion underlines the continuous friction between institutional adoption and Bitcoin's initial decentralized vision. As the crypto ecosystem changes, the argument around custody and institutional engagement continues to influence the future of digital assets.
