AI-generated misinformation sparks rumors of SEC chair resignation

False rumors about the resignation of US Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler are circulating again. But this time, artificial intelligence seems to have played a role.

On July 1, a message was posted on the website CryptoAlert, citing an anonymous source, claiming that Gensler had "filed his resignation following an internal investigation."

Also, the site seems to be very new, with only 17 total posts and the date of his first post is June 22nd. Artificial intelligence appears to be heavily used in most articles, with all articles using ZeroGPT scoring around 70%. Aside from the fact that most of the text appears to have been generated by AI, the website domain, thecryptoalert.com' was registered on 4, according to registration records.

Several accounts have since reposted this article on his Twitter. The most viewed post is from his Whalechart, where he had 1.7 million views at the time of publication.

Fox Business Network reporter Charles Gasparino confirmed in a July 3 tweet that Gary Gensler, who reportedly received feedback from the SEC, will not resign.

This isn't the first time rumors of Gensler's retirement have spread. On April 20th, allegations circulated from dubious sources that Gensler was preparing to be "fired".

On June 12, US lawmakers introduced a new bill to the House of Representatives called the SEC Stabilization Act. One of their main conditions is to sack Mr. Gensler and label him as a "domineering chairman."
